The Night Before Your English Oral: A 20-Minute Checklist
The GCE oral window opens tomorrow. If your exam is this week, tonight is not the night for new material — it is the night for one calm 20-minute run-through, then rest. Here is exactly what to do.
Minutes 1–5: say your method out loud
Not read — say. “View. Reason. Personal experience. Extension.” Then answer one familiar Spoken Interaction question with it, aloud, once. You are reminding your mouth, not your memory.
Minutes 6–15: one gentle run-through
One Planned Response prompt, your usual preparation time, then deliver it. Do not mark yourself harshly — you are proving to yourself that the process works, because it does.
Minutes 16–20: the one page
Read your Oral Cheat Sheet once, slowly. Format, method, checklist. Then close everything. No group chats dissecting rumours about topics, no midnight model answers.
Then: sleep
A rested speaker sounds confident; a tired one sounds unsure of things they actually know. Eight hours is worth more than any final drill. For tomorrow morning itself, follow the calm exam-day routine — and if your exam is later in the window, there’s still time for spoken practice with Mentora Oral Coach.
