Why Some Students Struggle with Summary

Summary is not about copying from the passage. It is about choosing the most important points.

Many students try to include everything they see. As a result, they exceed the word limit and miss important points.

Strong students do something different. They identify the key ideas and remove examples, repetitions and unnecessary details.

When practising summary:

  • Find the required points.
  • Remove examples.
  • Combine similar ideas.
  • Check your word count.

Mentora Tip

Summary is not a memory test. It is a selection test.
