I said her name, and then I said nothing. The ‘sorry’ would come in a moment.
A checklist for any story
After writing, run through ten short questions. Tick what works. Here are a few:
- Does the first sentence begin inside the story, not before it?
- Are at least two feelings shown through the body, not named?
- Is the most important moment given at least one full paragraph?
- Does the ending grow from this story, or could it end any story?
A note for parents
This pack is built to be read slowly, with your child, over about four weeks — roughly thirty minutes a week. You do not need to have been taught this yourself. You read along, ask three or four questions, and use a simple checklist. Spend a month with it and you’ll see real movement in your child’s next draft.
